ADVER readers say they are reluctant to head back into the town centre when lockdown ends on Wednesday.

We asked on Facebook whether people were eager to do their Christmas shopping in person, having been unable to visit non-essential stores since November 5.

But there appears to be concern over the rate of Covid cases in the town, as well as a lack of options.

Emily Eyre said: “It’s not safe, you’d be silly to put your family at risk when online shopping is available. Gifts aren’t what make Christmas.”

Sue Somerville added: “I’m doing online shopping, same as food shopping – get that delivered too.”

Other readers claimed the lack of shops was the reason why they would not be going in.

Justine Hamilton said: “Online only. There are hardly any shops open and if I don’t need to go into town then I won’t.”

Elaine Wade added: “I won’t be, but if I needed to it wouldn’t be in Swindon town centre.”

With Terry Hawkins saying: “I wouldn’t go into town. Not many shops anyway now.”

But Geetha Cheedella feels now was the time to do something more traditional.

She said: “Is it not a good time to have Christmas market in the town where the stalls are placed around the town centre to maintain safety rules? And also attract public to the town and maybe this can give quick cash for this season as many have lost jobs.”
