The Empire cinema at Greenbridge Retail Park will not be reopening tomorrow.

A post on Facebook from the cinema said it will remain closed until further notice because of the new tier system and a lack of new movie releases.

The post said: "We have endeavoured to open as many cinemas as possible as and when restrictions have allowed.

"However, with the recent delays of film releases and the government tier restrictions across the country, we've had to make the difficult decision to temporarily close this cinema until further notice.

"Nothing compares to watching a film on the big screen and we will be working hard in the background so we can welcome you back as soon as possible."

The cinema added that gift card and voucher expiry dates will be extended to cover the closure.

The other cinema chain in the town, Cineworld, closed both of its Shaw Ridge and Regent Circus locations earlier in the year.

Movie postponements and Covid restrictions were also behind that closure.

Cineworld is yet to announce a reopening date.
