Track renewals in the Swindon area will cause some delays during January.

Engineers from Network Rail are carrying out essential track renewals to upgrade the Great Western line in the Swindon area over four consecutive weekends in January.

The first weekend of disruption has already passed but on the weekends of January 16 and 17 and January 30 and 31 the Didcot Parkway to Swindon service will be disrupted.

Trains will still run between London Paddington and Didcot Parkway as well as between Swindon and Cheltenham Spa, Bristol Temple Meads or Westbury.

But trains between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will be diverted via an alternative route between Reading and Bath Spa, extending journey times by around 20 minutes. These services won’t call at Didcot Parkway, Swindon or Chippenham.

And trains between London Paddington and Swansea will be diverted via an alternative route between Reading and Bristol Parkway, extending journey time by around 20 minutes. These services won’t call at Didcot Parkway or Swindon but will call additionally at Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads.

Replacement bus services will operate twice an hour between Didcot Parkway and Swindon and Reading and Swindon.
