TWO groups of people were involved in a shocking incident where are car was smashed with a hammer.
An appeal for witnesses has been launched following the incident, which took place on Rivington Lane on Sunday at around 2.30pm.
A police spokesman said: "Two groups of people were involved in an altercation which resulted in extensive damage to a car with the use of a hammer.
"Another car believed to be a black Vauxhall Corsa was driven dangerously by a male within the car park where it collided with several other cars before fleeing the scene.
"We are keen to trace any witnesses or any people who may have CCTV, dash cam or mobile footage of the incident. If so please email 2120@lancashire.police.uk"
Lastly we would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and isn't the type of incident we are used to seeing in the Rivington area.
