A young man felled another with a single punch before walking away, a court heard.

CCTV played to Swindon Crown Court yesterday showed Kyron Denmark, who was on a push bike, speaking to victim Anthony Fleming outside the Albany Palace, on Park Street in Trowbridge, on July 8, 2019, before returning on foot.

He landed a single punch on his opponent’s cheek, leaving the man sprawled on the pavement. He suffered a cut to his face and received treatment at the minor injuries unit.

Denmark, 21, of Hill Street, Hilperton, had been due to stand trial this week on a charge of wounding with intent.

However, following legal arguments on Tuesday he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

He entered the guilty plea on the basis that he had not assaulted Mr Fleming with a weapon. It had earlier been suggested Denmark had had a knife in his hand.

Judge Peter Crabtree remanded Denmark in custody. He will be sentenced on a date to be fixed, when he will also be dealt with for a burglary spree and charge of aggravated vehicle taking committed the night before he had carried out the Trowbridge assault.
