WESTBURY Town Council has welcomed the Environment Agency's decision to extend the consultation period for the proposed Westbury waste-to-energy incinerator operating permit.

The public consultation will now close at 11.59pm on Sunday, February instead of Friday, January 22.

In a statement, the council said: "The Environment Agency has told us that they wish to listen to the community's views and remain transparent and open throughout the permit application process.

"They understand the current national lockdown will have implications for some people and may make it harder for them to have their say.

"Residents who recently received a postcard from the Environment Agency stating the original January closing date, should disregard this, as this was sent out before the extension was agreed."

"Westbury Town Council is currently considering its own response to this consultation and whilst we are always keen to hear the views of residents, we are not permitted to submit responses on behalf of residents."
