Police have been forced to remind Trowbridge residents that "drinking in public" does not count as daily exercise.

Trowbridge Police have appealed for people to be considerate of current lockdown restrictions.

Officers have been forced to deal with numerous calls regarding people drinking alcohol in public.

Posting on Facebook, the force wrote: "As we see a significant rise in Covid-19 cases in Wiltshire its imperative that the public play their part in reducing the transmission of the virus.

"Unfortunately, the local police have received a number of calls relating to a small minority of people who are insistent on flouting the rules by continuing to drink alcohol in public.

"Whilst we fully appreciate the need for people to take the time to exercise in the fresh air, drinking in public does not form part of daily exercise.

"We will be looking to proactively Engage, Explain, Encourage and Enforce where necessary in order to ensure public protection."

Meanwhile, Bradford on Avon police have issued one fixed penalty ticket in relation to the issue in the last week.
