A staff member at a Warminster dementia centre has lifted spirits across the country, thanks to her viral videos.

Louise Gover is the day club manager at the Old Silk Works dementia centre, run by Alzheimer's Support.

Her videos on social media platform TikTok, under the username @lou.goverfanofbeany, have received more than 20,000 likes and garnered 11,000 followers.

At work, she and her dedicated team have created short videos to help bring smiles to the faces of many.

Louise, who lives in Trowbridge, said: “My teenagers introduced me to Tik Tok during the first lock down and I must admit I'm now addicted. Tik Tok is a bit of light hearted fun. I don't take myself seriously and just enjoy making people laugh.

“It has helped pass the time and help me annoy my kids! I didn't expect my Tiktok account to gain so many followers so quickly - it now has 11,200 followers.

"I've been stopped whilst shopping by people who have thanked me for making them laugh during a depressing time."

Last April, Louise also spurred smiles after she donned fancy dress to carry out essential shopping and prescription pick-ups to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Support.

She helped raise more than £1,000 for Alzheimer's Support through her essential trips dressed as a gorilla, bottle of beer, a leprechaun and even a Sumo wrestler.

Continuing to ensure that people get the support they deserve, she said, was thanks to her great team.

She added: “I work with a fantastic dedicated team of staff and volunteers. All of whom have gone above and beyond particularly through the pandemic doing lots of fundraising for the charity to help us to keep going. Lesley Smith (senior support worker) raised over £1000 making facial coverings by hand.

"Claire Mitchell raised a lot of money with her family doing a 24 hour dance a thon.

“People living with dementia come along to the club for a day of socialising and activities whilst their carer at home gets a much needed day to themselves.

"Alzheimer's support are continuing to provide vital support through lock down with our home support team, day clubs, community clubs and dementia advisors.

“Lock down has had a huge impact on the lives of those living with dementia and it is so important our services continue.”

Old Silk Works day club opened in May 2018 after a collaboration between the local Warminster community and Alzheimer's Support.

After a two-year search for the right building, the charity remodelled and renovated the Victorian mill in a nine-month project.

They were supported by local fundraisers and a team of volunteers who helped with everything from project management and painting and decorating to equipping the new club.
