A PENSIONER in Melksham has finally received a £50 compensation cheque from High Street bank HSBC after it was sent to a previous address in Trowbridge.

Rachel Withers delivered the cheque to Pauline Burbidge, 70, after she was located following a successful appeal in the Wiltshire Times last week.

The bank had wrongly sent it to Mrs Burbidge’s previous address in York Buildings, which she left more than 10 years ago.

Miss Withers said: “I am delighted to have found Pauline. She had been contacted by lots of people who saw the article in the paper.”

Pauline, who now lives in Chapel Close, Melksham, said: “I am absolutely delighted to get it. My phone was beeping every few minutes with people contacting me. My niece also rang me to say I was in the paper.”

“It was pretty scary because I thought what have I done? I haven’t been out anywhere.”

Mrs Burbidge changed banks after leaving Trowbridge and had moved house twice.

The compensation was for HSBC’s Recovery and Collections team failing to meet service standards.
