THE death of 100-year-old fundraising hero Captain Sir Tom Moore prompted an outpouring of condolences and kind words from Adver readers.

They paid tribute to the popular pensioner who raised millions of pounds for the NHS and inspired a nation.

Tina Ceferin: “Rest in peace Captain Tom. Your walk inspired me and many others to make the most of any situation.

“Following your example, I accomplished a 100 days walking challenge for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, walking 15,000 steps per day with a numb leg and just a few months after a back operation. If you made it, I had to as well.

“Thank you for sharing love, compassion, care and hope amongst us in the most critical moments of the pandemic. I wish there would be more people like you.”
