A CONCERT venue, escape rooms and indoor golf are among the suggestions made by Adver readers for Regent Circus.

Of eight of the units at the town centre comples, only three remain occupied.

Restaurants Nando’s and Lamaya and Cineworld’s six-screen cinema are still trading but others, like Prezzo, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Tiffins have all left, along with supermarket chain Morrisons.

A number of leisure options were suggested on Facebook by readers keen to see the void filled.

Gaye Stringer said: “Total leisure. Cinema to stay, escape rooms, indoor fun golf, bowling, eating venues.

“Offer these to local restaurants at a discount to create a leisure area unique to Swindon

“There are some fantastic eating venues in Swindon, not always in the greatest of places.

“It didn’t really work with a supermarket.”

Lee Collins added: “You have a cinema already so start with laser tag, bowling, betting shop, hairdressers, game shop and an Apple store.

“Put something awesome there. Make it a place people can walk into and enjoy.

“It looks nice. Make it an area that people could go to and have fun.”

Other people suggested a new music venue for the town. The Wyvern Theatre and Oasis have attracted bands and comedians but with the latter closing in November, the future is uncertain.

Lee S Bennett said: “It should be a large music and entertainment venue.

“Bath, Reading, Bristol, Oxford, Cheltenham and Gloucester all have music and entertainment venues.

“Swindon needs bolstering with regard to attractions, viability and recognition.”

Mark Pannell added: “The old Morrisons would be an ideal live music venue.

“And if anyone has ever been to the old ruin bars in Budapest, a vibrant place with different themes and entertainment in every room, there are plenty of unused buildings around the town which could be turned into something similar.”

And others just wanted to see more shops on the site, with Ikea being a popular – if highly fanciful – choice.

Ash Walters said: “Is it not too much trouble to have some decent clothing shops and decent shoe shops please?

“I think people still enjoy actually going to the shops, believe it or not.”
