JURORS were shown the stab vest Lee Fitchett was wearing when he was arrested the day after an armed raid in Swindon town centre.

Prosecutors claim that 38-year-old Fitchett was the hooded man who, together with another man, carried out the raid on a Sheppard Street bedsit in November 2019. Fitchett denies aggravated burglary.

Yesterday, Azza Brown, for the Crown, showed jurors at Swindon Crown Court a selection of items worn by Fitchett when he was arrested on November 20.

They included an XL Nike tracksuit, an XXL Nike jacket, size 10 trainers and a black stab vest, an extendable police-style baton and holster belt.

Also shown to the jury were pairs of black combat trousers and a green puffa-style jacket seized from a property in Copse Avenue and similar to that worn by the hooded man – identified in court as “male two” – seen on CCTV footage to enter the Sheppard Street flats at around 3.30am on November 19.

Prosecutors say the raider ordered his victim “strip and squat” after demanding drugs and cash. He made off with bags of clothes.

Yesterday morning, the complainant compared the man who gave the order – who is said to have worn a stab vest and been armed with a baton and knife – to Marvel film character Deadpool. The Hollywood favourite, played by actor Ryan Reynolds, is typically depicted wearing two swords and a utility belt.

Fitchett, of no fixed address, denies aggravated burglary. The trial continues.
