A CHILD rapist was warned he faces a lengthy jail sentence.

Appearing before Swindon Crown Court, Alan Thursby, 23, pleaded guilty to rape of a child under-13 and rape.

The charges included an allegation that he had raped his female victim, who was underage, on at least 20 occasions.

The abuse was carried out over several years from 2014, the court heard.

Granting him bail and ordering pre-sentence and psychiatric reports, Judge Jason Taylor QC told the Chippenham man: “You understand that you’ve pleaded guilty to extremely serious offences. There can only be one sentence. It will be a lengthy custodial one.”

Thursby, of Royal Close, Chippenham, will be sentenced at the crown court on June 18.

He was represented by Tony Bignall. Tessa Hingston appeared for the Crown Prosecution Service.
