CREWS from all over Wiltshire and two other counties spent the night putting out a thatched roof.
Stratton St Margaret fire station was among the 18 involved in tackling the burning cottage in Collingbourne Ducis near Tidworth.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service received support from colleagues in Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
They were first alerted to the fire around 4pm on Tuesday.
At 8.30pm, the DWFRS said: "The situation is improving but the fire will be ongoing for some time.
"The main road through Collingbourne Ducis is still fully closed with diversions in place. Anyone in the area should keep doors and windows closed."
The road was closed until 6am and is now open again. There were no injuries and valuables from the property were saved.
