A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after an attack in Thames Avenue this morning.
The road was shut by police after the assault at around 9.15am.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of an assault on Thames Avenue this morning at approximately 9.15am.
"One man was taken to Great Western Hospital but is being transferred to John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with a life-threatening head injury.
"Our investigation is at a very early stage but the two men involved are understood to be known to each other and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the public.
"A cordon was set up on Thames Avenue while our enquiries were carried out. No arrests have been made at this stage."
Swindon’s Bus Company tweeted this morning that its number 11 and 12 services were being diverted in Haydon Wick and Moredon.
The tweet read: “We are diverting traffic via Whitworth Road, The Street, Haydonleigh Drive and Westfield Way to the Asda Walmart. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
