THE CONSERVATIVES have held onto Wiltshire Council by a clear majority – although the Liberal Democrats made some gains.

The Tories won 61 seats, down from the 68 they claimed in 2017. The Lib Dems were up seven seats to 27.

The results in wards around Swindon were as follows:

Aldbourne and Ramsbury

James Sheppard (Conservative) won with 1,194 votes on a 41 per cent turnout. Charlie O’Farrell (Green) received 279 votes; Rodney Cleasby (Lib Dem), 199 votes; George Cheese (Labour), 181 votes.

Brinkworth

Elizabeth Threlfall (Conservative) won with 1,114 votes on a 58.7 per cent turnout. Chris Hurst (Lib Dem) received 993 votes; Philip Baffour (Labour), 75 votes.

Cricklade and Latton

Bob Jones (Lib Dem) won with 1,274 votes on a 52.5 per cent turnout. Luke Jowett (Conservative) received 776 votes.

Lyneham

Allison Bucknell (Conservative) won with 1,269 votes on a 38.9 per cent turnout. Oliver Lavery (Green) received 205 votes; James Elford, 124 votes.

Minety

Chuck Berry (Conservative) won with 1,217 votes on a 47.2 per cent turnout. Liz Lewis (Lib Dem) received 226 votes; Steve Butcher (Labour), 191 votes; Francesca Vandelli (Green), 186 votes.

Purton

Jacqui Lay (Conservative) won with 1,097 votes on a 32.3 per cent turnout. Joanne Clarke (Lib Dem) received 227 votes; Steve Wheeler (Labour), 157 votes; Cathy Limbrick (Green), 111 votes.

Royal Wootton Bassett East

Steve Bucknell (Conservative) won with 981 votes on a 41.3 per cent turnout. Fiona Holness (Lib Dem) received 339 votes; Stuart Dark (Labour), 122 votes; Karen Crawford (Green), 88 votes.

Royal Wootton Bassett North

Mary Champion (Conservative) won with 770 votes on a 37.2 per cent turnout. Andrew Matthews (Lib Dem) received 578 votes; Ron Bradwell (Labour), 133 votes; Tony Clark (Green), 82 votes.

Royal Wootton Bassett South and West

David Bowler (Lib Dem) won with 938 votes on a 44.9 per cent turnout. Sue Hughes (Conservative) received 893 votes; Heather Reilly-Edwards (Labour), 159 votes.
