A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted theft and going equipped to steal after officers were called to an alarm going off at a recycling centre in Stanton St Quintin.

An alarm went off at Hills Recycling around 2.30pm on Tuesday (11).

Officers found a silver Audi parked nearby, which was unoccupied but the engine was still warm.

They then found a hole in the fence, close to where the car was parked, so entered the site and used a dog unit and a drone to search the area.

Nobody was located in the site, but the drone spotted someone lying down in a nearby field and the person was soon detained by police.

The suspect and car were both searched and two torches, gloves and a crowbar were seized. A 32-year-old man from Bradford on Avon has been arrested on suspicion of attempted theft and going equipped to steal. He is currently in custody at Melksham Police Station.

Inspector David Stevenson, from the local policing team, said: “Officers were at the scene within six minutes of us receiving this call from the security company and were able to use extra resources, such as a dog unit and a drone, to carry out a thorough search of the site and the nearby area.
