A SWINDON company trying to turn plastic into a more sustainable eco-friendly material has appointed a new non-executive director to oversee its efforts.

Alice Cummings has joined the board of Recycling Technologies in the new role and will be the chair of the audit and risk committee.

The company has developed a new machine which turns hard-to-recycle pieces of plastic like bags, films and laminated plastic into a new sort of oil called Plaxx.

This is then used to produce new plastic. The RT7000 machine that makes Plaxx is modular and small-scale, so the company hopes it will be able to fit easily onto existing waste treatment and recycling sites.

Recycling Technologies hopes its invention will provide a helpful solution to sorting out plastic all over the world.

Alice Cummings brings more than 30 years of strategic, operational, accountancy and risk management leadership experience to her new role at the company.

She said: “This is an exciting company playing an important role to make plastics sustainable.

"I am delighted to join as a non-executive director at this important time in the company’s growth and commercialisation phase.”

Chief executive officer and founder of Recycling Technologies Adrian Griffiths said, “Alice has a broad range of important experience and expertise in business, risk management and accounting to help develop, manage and grow our business.

"I look forward to working with her and the other directors of the business to make plastic a sustainable and valuable material.”

Chairman Gary Bullard added: "We are very pleased to have Alice join as a new non-executive director.

"Her business, accounting, financial and risk management expertise will prove invaluable in the development of Recycling Technologies as we forge ahead with our plans for 2021 and beyond.”

Ms Cummings is a proven group chief financial officer and has held senior accountancy and financial roles in corporates such as South West Water and AEA Technology. She has industry expertise in engineering, technology, energy efficiency and the environment.
