Three brave volunteers will take part in a wing walk for a Swindon charity that helps children from all backgrounds succeed in sport.

The challenge will take place at Rendcomb Airfield in Cirencester on August 6.

Taking part in the challenge are Laura Bethel, Harry Rule and Richard Sutton - and there is one more space available for anyone to sign up for.

Funds raised will go to Doing It For Dan, which was set up in memory of Daniel Climance.

At just 11 years old, Dan passed away in a traffic collision while riding his bike in Purton on June 10, 2016.

Dan's mum Helen Hancock set up Doing It For Dan to help other children succeed.

Husband and Trustee of the charity, Graham Hancock, says: "Dan was a sporty young man, and Helen set up the charity as a bit of positivity and to give her something to focus on. It's good to see out of a tragic accident the hundreds of children we have helped.

"Generally, the parents we help don't have the funds. Many of these kids are really talented and just wouldn't have the opportunity to do these sports. It can be really expensive."

Funds raised are converted by the charity into grants to help children participate in sport that they wouldn't be able to afford to do.

On the anniversary of Dan's passing on Thursday, Helen posted on the charity's Facebook page: "Any parent who loses a child will tell you that from that day onwards a piece of you dies too, but I knew I had to continue to live my life focusing on the positives and I am so proud of our little charity that we created in Dan’s memory.

"Although he was never able to fulfil all his sporting ambitions I know he would be thrilled that we are able to help other children to do that and enjoy all the benefits that come from participating in sport.

"Today marks six years without Daniel and I think about him every day, but knowing that the charity is making a positive difference to the young people we support gives me strength and focus and I thank everyone involved for their continued love and support."

Over the years, the charity has sponsored many young sportspeople, including junior supersport champion Elliot Pinson and novice ice skating champion Arabella Sear-Watkins.

Doing It For Dan will also be holding a repeat of their popular Afternoon Tea Party, which last happened in 2019 at the Red Lion in Castle Eaton.

This year the event will take place at the Heart in Hand pub in Blunsdon on August 14. There will be a Prosecco and Pimms bar, raffle, and live music from vintage singer Delores.
