A teenager has been arrested after a woman called police this morning to say she had disturbed someone breaking into her house.

Officers were called to the property in Sutton Veny, near Warminster, at around 8.15am today (15/06).

The homeowner had returned to the address and found the back door open, before seeing someone climbing out of her bedroom window and running away.

Officers from the local Community Policing Team were at the scene within nine minutes and searched the area, quickly locating a suspect.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is now in custody at Melksham Police Station. It is not yet clear if anything was stolen.

Inspector Al Lumley, from the Warminster Area CPT, said: “This was swift work by these officers, who were able to get to the scene quickly and carry out a thorough search of the area.

“This meant that a suspect had been located and arrested by 8.35am, just 20 minutes after the initial call came into us."

“I want to applaud everyone involved for this fantastic work by both our neighbourhood and our response teams, who worked together - a brilliant start to the day.”
