THE Town Gardens light has been fixed after over twenty years of being neglected.

South Swindon Parish Council have fixed the light over the main Quarry Road gate.

The light has been attached to this gate for the majority of its 120-year existence but had got into a state of disrepair.

Councillor Chris Watts, chair of the parish council, said: “It’s fantastic to see the Quarry Road gate light fixed after such a long time being in disrepair.

"This light is a piece of Swindon’s heritage, alongside the park’s historic gates. The parish council took on the management of Town Gardens in 2019 so to get the light fixed after two years when it hadn’t been fixed for the previous years, is something we are proud of.

"This really is the cherry on top of our refurbishment to the park's gates and we are delighted to get this light back on.”

The light improvements is part of the parish council’s overall Town Gardens gates refurbishment programme which started in the spring of 2020.
