A 40mph speed limit has been imposed on Draycot Close, a country lane in Draycot Foliat south of Chiseldon.

Cars were previously allowed to drive at 60mph on the narrow single-carriageway road but Chiseldon parish Council applied to Swindon Borough Council for an order to lower the limit on safety grounds.

Parish council chairman Matt Harris said: “We have been approached by residents on a number of occasions asking us to address the speed of vehicles in the area.”

Borough councillor Jenny Jefferies said: “Although Draycot Close consists of a small number of houses it is on a blind bend and resident parking space is limited, with the need to reverse into the main road.

“We are delighted that the residents’ concerns have been addressed.”

The new speed limit came into effect last week.
