A FURTHER 102 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Swindon.

Within the last seven days, there were 562 positive Covid-19 tests confirmed around the borough, which is 229 more than the week before - a rise of 63.3 per cent.

As of July 8, Swindon's infection rate stood at 227.7 cases per 100,000 population.

Within the last 24 hours, one new patient with symptoms of the disease has been admitted to Great Western Hospital. This is the 21st Covid patient to be admitted within the last seven days, which is 13 more than the previous week - a rise of 162.5 per cent.

No new Covid-related deaths have been recorded at the hospital within the last seven days.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 36,660 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the government said.

A further 50 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, the highest day-on-day increase since April 9.

It brings the UK total to 128,481.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 154,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
