A PATIENT with coronavirus has died at Great Western Hospital for the first time since May.

The patient died on Saturday, according to the latest available data, bringing the hospital's total Covid-related death toll to 324.

A further 75 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Swindon within 24 hours and in the last seven days, there have been 989 positive Covid-19 test results confirmed around the borough, which is 440 more than the week before - a rise of 80 per cent.

Five more patients with Covid-19 symptoms are being treated at Great Western Hospital. There have been 22 admitted in the last seven days, which is one more than the week before.

Swindon's infection rate as of July 14 is 348.3 cases per 100,000 population.

As of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 39,950 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the government said.

A further 19 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 128,727.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 154,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
