People enjoyed the sun as they tracked down 50 fantastic scarecrows in Lacock this weekend.

The annual fundraiser for Lacock Primary School took place under the scorching sun, with ice cream and refreshment stands helping to cool people down.

The theme for the adult’s element of the trail was ‘Best of British’ while children were challenged to create scarecrows inspired by animals.

Taking place on July 17 and July 18, families had travelled from all over to take part in the fun.

Sarah McGinty and her daughter Erin had come from Andover.

“It was great and very well organised, especially with covid because things had been changed slightly to still comply with the rules.

“There was a one way system and we were encouraged to socially distance.

“It was really special to our family as a couple years ago we thought we’d take a day out to Lacock as my daughter is a massive Harry Potter fan.

“We quite literally stumbled across the trail and ended up taking part, and having a fantastic time as a family.

“It was cancelled last year so we were so excited to finally see it again this year after waiting so long. It’s great for adults and kids - and there were some really interesting creations!

“It’s just such a great idea and we’ll definitely be back next year, no question about it.”

Many of the scarecrows were built with materials supplied by the Wiltshire Scrapstore charity which is based in the village.

Organisers laid out a main trail and a children’s trail on routes around the idyllic National Trust village which often stars in major blockbuster Hollywood films such as the Harry Potter series.

There were, as well as the scarecrows, fun inflatables, refreshments, a home-made cake stall and a barbecue, plus ice creams to help visitors stay cool in the heat.

Dozens of Wiltshire businesses, such as the Rowdey Cow and Whitehall Garden Centre, had also got involved with the trail and offered prizes for a variety of categories.

All money raised from the trail maps sold will go into making improvements and increasing opportunities at Lacock Primary School.
