Bowood House and Gardens came alive with music and dancing this Friday (July 24), as Classic Ibiza marked one of the region's largest events since 'Freedom Day.'

The 32-piece Urban Soul Orchestra, joined by DJ Goldierocks, made their way through more than 30 house classics as the sun began to set.

Their anthems ranged from Fat Boy Slim's Praise You, to Sunchyme by Dario G and to Feels So Good by Sonique.

Their dance set, from 9.30pm, transformed the gardens into a nightclub with the darkness punctuated by glow sticks, lasers and fairy lights.

All attendees had to present their NHS Covid Pass or details of a negative test result before they could gain entry. Boxes across the grass also encouraged people to sit in bubbles.

People had travelled from across the country to attend the much-loved event and said the chance to dance had felt "almost like therapy."

"This feels long overdue," said Cara Phillips, 25. She and her friends had travelled through from Bath.

"It's what everyone needs - the chance to get dancing again and have an excuse to smile. It's been brilliant. Highlight of the year."

Sean Briggs, from Devizes, added the night had been "amazing."

"I've never been to anything like this before, I was really impressed and it was really well organised."

Just one arrest was made throughout the night, at around 9pm. Wiltshire Police said they responded to reports of an intoxicated man.

The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and has been dealt with by way of a fixed penalty notice.

Food vendors were keep busy with the Fork Society even running out of their chicken dish because there was such high demand.

Classic Ibiza also acted as a fundraiser for the county-wide charity Wiltshire Sight.

Karen Monk was joined by other staff, volunteers and co-orporate fundraisers from Wiltshire Sight on Friday night.

Karen said: "It's been a great event.

"It's not just about raising money, it's also the chance to raise awareness. Lots of people donated to our buckets which was brilliant, but they were also asking questions about the work we do."

Wiltshire Sight is an important charity to Bowood - Lady Lansdowne is not only a patron but has also volunteered as a befriender in the past.

The second planned night of Classic Ibiza, due to take place on Saturday, was cancelled due to the weather.

Lisa Ward, organiser of Classic Ibiza, had said: “We are devastated for the people who have waited two years to see the show again, but we have made this decision to protect them, our amazing performers and crew. Nothing is more important than that."
