PLANNING enforcement officers have been asked to investigate development activity at the former mushroom mine used fertiliser site near Bradford on Avon.

The site on the road between Upper and Lower Westwood has lain dormant for several years and had grown into a natural wildlife habitat.

About a year ago, most of the wildlife habitat was destroyed after the two-acre site was literally bulldozed flat.

One resident said: “I now see that a load of hardcore has been laid and two shipping containers installed by the gates.

“I have checked all planning applications going back to 2017, and I can’t see any applications for destruction of trees and natural habitat or for hardcore and shipping containers etc."

Cllr Nick Botterill, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Development Control and Strategic Planning, said: "We have asked our Planning Enforcement Team to investigate further."

Westwood Parish Council will also raise the issue at its meeting next Monday.
