Town Centre: At least 28 people could be living above fashion store New Look in the heart of the town if a proposal by develop The Offer Group is approved.

The company, based in Kingston in London has asked for prior approval for proposals to divide 55-61 Regent Street into seven retail units, with a self-storage until at the rear of the building which fronts onto Granville Street car park.

The developer wants to build another two storeys on the building to create 28 flats -24 with one bedroom and four two-bed apartments.

The company’s application makes much of the desire of the council to have more people living in the town centre and quotes its aims and objective for central Swindon as: “an area that has life and energy throughout the day and into the evening. An attractive, safe, healthy and accessible place that people choose for leisure, living, shopping and working”.

Gablecross: Having been tight-lipped about confirming it will be using the huge new warehouse being built at Symmetry Park off the A420, internet commerce giant Amazon will be shouting from the rooftops when it moves in.

The company has asked for permission for huge signs bearing its familiar wordmark and smile logo to be placed on the building and for Totem signs to be places at the entrance to the development.

GWH: Bosses at Great Western Hospital have lodged a travel and car park plan as part of their application to demolish the existing Clover building on the Badbury site and construct a new urgent treatment centre.

Moredon: The coronavirus pandemic has led to a new business coming to Swindon. Married couple K and K Clark were both laid off from their retail jobs, and have just been given permission to open a dog day care centre, using the vet’s practice building at 10 Moredon Road.

They say they will offer a service to dog owners while they are at work and added: “The pandemic has a made dog owners more aware of the needs of their pets, including their need for company and care whilst owners are at work. “

It says the new day care will take in a maximum of 8 dogs per qualified employee – with both Mr and Mrs Clark qualified, and will carry out four to five grooms of dogs a day.

Old Town: An application to add a two-storey rear and single-storey rear extensions and a replacement garage to a house in Croft Road has been refused. The refusal follows the turning down of a similar plan last year.

The planning officer’s report said: “The changes between the two submissions are not considered significant. This revised proposal remains poor design, harmful to the character and appearance of the host dwelling and its surroundings.

“The design, scale and massing of the proposed fails to respect the existing character of this period property and would result in an incongruous development to the detriment of the character and appearance of the host dwelling and its surroundings.
