Hundreds of local people have showed their support for Julia’s House and the children and families the charity cares for by having their photos taken for a giant community bear sculpture.

If you missed the Julia’s House We Care Bear in Devizes, Chippenham and Salisbury over the weekend, you can still upload your selfie of support at the charity’s website juliashousebear.org

The photographs will be printed as a selfie mosaic on the 2m high sculpture to create a ‘giant bear hug’ of support for the seriously ill children and families who are cared for by Julia’s House.

The children’s hospice also hopes that the We Care Bear sculpture will help to raise awareness of the vital care that the charity provides across Wiltshire.

This month (September 16), Julia’s House launched its Together We Care Appeal in the Gazette in a bid to raise essential funds to support the ongoing respite care they provide for local families in their homes and at the Devizes hospice.

Karin Meek, from Chippenham, visited the charity’s selfie stand on Sunday with her husband Richard.

"We wanted to have our photo taken to show our support for the Julia's House nurses and carers and the incredible local children and families who rely on their care,” Karin said.

“We're looking forward to seeing the finished bear, and it's lovely to know that it will be going to the charity's hospice building in Devizes for the families to see when they visit."

Claudia Hickin, fundraiser for Julia’s House, said, “We had a brilliant turnout at our We Care Bear event days, and so many generous donations for our Together We Care Appeal.

“Around 200 photographs were taken at our selfie stand across the weekend with supporters of all ages, which is a great start for creating our community bear sculpture. We’d love more people to upload their selfie photos at our website and show their support for Julia’s House and the seriously ill children and families that we care for across Wiltshire.

“We rely on our supporters to keep our essential care going for the growing number of families that depend on us in Wiltshire, so we’re encouraging people to spread the word and do what they can to support our Together We Care Appeal.”

Once completed, the We Care Bear sculpture will be displayed in locations across Wiltshire and at the charity’s hospice building in Devizes later this year.
