A BROTHER and sister working in a Swindon salon have won big at a national awards ceremony held in London.

Josh and Sophie-Rose Goldsworthy are officially two of the best in the beauty business after HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards night.

Josh is the Stylist of the Year and Sophie-Rose is the Manager of the Year. The duo from Goldsworthy's in Old Town fought off tough competition to be honoured for their passion for hairdressing and success in the industry.

Josh said: "It is absolutely amazing to win. It’s my third year winning so I am speechless to be honest, I really didn’t expect to win again so it feels amazing.

"My sister was also a winner and that was such a highlight, I was honestly more nervous for her so seeing her pick up her award was just the icing on the cake.

"I’d love to thank my family because, as a family we have 60 years in this business, and they have always supported me so much.

"I’d like to thank my wife who is everything to me, her support means the world. I have such a passion for the industry and what we do so I hope that this can keep on inspiring others to enter these awards and go far."

Sophie-Rose added: "It feels amazing to be a winner! I think it’s incredibly important to recognise the business side of hairdressing because the creative side is usually at the forefront, and not everyone knows what goes on behind the scenes to ensure a business runs smoothly.

"I would like to thank my family, brother, and husband who have been huge inspirations to me.”

The awards' director Jayne Lewis Orr said: "Josh has demonstrated a talent and creativity that is to be greatly admired. His commitment to both clients and salon life is exemplary and he has a work ethic that has ensured continued success. It takes years of focus and determination to become an all-round exceptional stylist.

"Sophie-Rose has shown that she possesses a multitude of key skills needed to successfully manage a salon and a team. Her enthusiasm and ambition is evident in all she does and her knowledge and experience is an inspiration. Our industry benefits so much from strong mentors and role models.

"They should both feel incredibly proud of all they have achieved."

The 23rd annual awards highlighted the hardworking names that have built outstanding salon businesses. Claiming a win in this category is a two-stage process; entrants must submit a comprehensive online entry dossier, before all finalists then attend a face-to-face interview with a panel of industry judges.
