Cabinet members and the chief executive of the council who apologised to the people of Swindon for delays in finishing the Mead Way works said the same problems and possible errors must not be repeated.

Chief executive officer Susie Kemp said lessons will be learned especially when it comes to the next major project - the £30m 'bus boulevard' in the town centre.

Work to convert Fleming Way to a traffic-free hub for passengers on all route is set to begin next year and is expected to last 30 months.

Here's what you told us on Facebook and our website...

Steve West: "I don't see the point in spending millions on this when no one goes shopping in the town centre."

Andrew Collett: "How can it be justified, spending ‘silly money’ on a bus boulevard?

"Who will use it, who’ll benefit (other than the developers) as the town centre is dead and a frightening place at night?"

Wal Solan: "Another waste of our money, there's nothing to go into town for.

"They allowed it to be completely run down."

Darren Archer: "We carried out bridge strengthening on the underpass of the Mead Way works. Our works were scheduled to take a week and we did it in two days.

"From the experience of working on the project, the biggest problem was the planning and investigation works of all the active services underground through the road.

"The contractor programmed their scheduled works properly but every time they opened up ground they found the underground cables, pipes and ducts were not as recorded.

"Every time they found a change they obviously had to report it to SBC, which as you can imagine was a nightmare.

"I think the biggest issue was when the West Swindon development was in full swing the services were just chucked in willy-nilly to keep everything moving and now everyone is paying the price sorting the mess out."

Aleksandra Joanna Pajak: "Funny how quick the new Zurich building is going up but you cant put some effort in to finishing a road that is affecting so many people."

Anthony Taylor: "The funding being used for the new bus station in meant to help re vitalise the town centre, fantastic planning !

"It will be a lot easier for us to get to all those closed shops and derelict buildings."

Raymond Petrie: "What's the point of it ..looks the same as before - to get people in the town centre there has to be something there."

Jonny Wallhouse: "Just finish mead way already, it’s been like two years. my business is on the Westmead industrial estate, every time I drive past no one is working, get the job done quicker it’s causing so many traffic problems."

Niall McDonald: "How long have I been reading about bus lane developments on Fleming Way now... lots of plans, not much delivery!"

Robert Ashworth: "Here's a prediction:No lessons will be learnt, a huge brush will sweep everything under the carpet!"

Sue Davison: "So when does summer end according to SBC?

"It's supposed to be finished Summer 2021, and here we are mid October and still nowhere near finished. What's going on?"

Howard King: "Don't bother...money down the drain...utterly pointless...spend it on potholes or cycle routes!"

Steve JD Daniels: "You keep allowing "it" to happen and still you plan more roadworks."

Julie Thrasher: "We need more shops and market back again like it used to be."

Lynn Edginton: "This is still happening almost every work site. It is shambolic.

"It is action we want not words."

John Barratt: "Brunel built the railway to Bristol quicker than they can resurface Mead Way.

"It is utter shambles and a disgrace to the taxpayer."

James Makenscield: "How about fixing up the town centre first to make it attractive enough to actually need a bus boulevard?"
