The Wyvern Theatre was officially opened by the Queen and Prince Philip 50 years ago on Friday.
The monarch unveiled a plaque outside the theatre on her visit to Swindon.
Her Majesty said: “Considerable imagination has been shown in the design of this project and Swindon can rightly be proud of it.”
The Wyvern, which opened in 1971, turned 50 on September 7.
The venue will be celebrating with events and activities. There will be an exhibition of memories, photos, special video messages, and venue tours.
The Wyvern welcomes more than 150,000 customers through the doors every year.
