BROOME Manor Golf Club’s junior team will represent England in the Home National Inter-Club Championship after coming second in the English Final last month.

Broome qualified alongside Peterborough Golf Club and Beau Desert Juniors at Ramside Hill Golf Resort in Durham, with all three teams set to compete for England at Forest Pines Golf Resort in 2022 - with the event set to be broadcast on Sky Sports Golf.

The Swindon club’s route through to the final was a tough one, first winning at Mendip Springs GC at the regional event before achieving success at Bowood Park in Cornwall for the South West qualifier.

Broome’s win at Bowood Park earned them a spot in the all English Final, an opportunity they took with both hands by clinching the runners up spot on 387 shots - eight behind Peterborough.

The hosting Cathedral course at Ramside Hall was playing tough in very damp and windy conditions, which made scoring difficult.

Broome Manor team captain Lewy Hayward led the team out from the front and came in the clubhouse with the second best gross score of the day (76). This was followed up by Niamh Cripps who shot a nett 74 to finish with the second best nett score of the day.

With a pair of solid scores in the clubhouse, it was down to the rest of the team to battle hard and get the job done, something they did with aplomb.

Broome Manor Golf Club SPGA Professional and team coach Lee Hayward said: “This truly is an outstanding achievement for Broome Manor Golf Club and our local junior golfers.

“I am very proud of how the team handled themselves in very tough playing conditions, the course was tough and they were up against a very good field of elite players.

“All weekend they showed real togetherness and an amazing team spirit, they are all really good friends and it showed, as when each player finished their own game, they were straight back out onto the course supporting the others until they finished.

“They are an awesome bunch of children and they have all done the golf club, their coach, their families, and most importantly themselves proud.

“I cant wait to travel to Forest Pines and give it our best shot representing England.”
