THE M4 is currently closed in both directions betweenJ15 Marlborough and J16 Swindon due to an ongoing police incident.

The road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

A National Highways spokesman said: "There are currently slight delays approaching the closure in either direction. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. 

"Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

Diversion routes

Westbound traffic is advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol:

Exit the M4 westbound at J15, taking the 3rd exit at the roundabout to join the A419 Marlborough Road.

At the next immediate junction (Commonhead Roundabout) exit the A419, taking the 1st exit onto the A4259 Queens Drive.

Continue along the A4259 Queens Drive until reaching the roundabout with the A4312 Drakes Way, take the 2nd exit onto the A4312 Drakes Way.

At the next immediate junction exit onto the A4313 Ocotal Way.

Continue along the A4313 Ocotal Way, continuing straight over 3 roundabouts until reaching the Transfer Bridges roundabouts.

At the first of the two Transfer Bridges roundabouts take the 3rd exit onto the A4289, at the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the B4289 Great Western Way.

Continue along this route heading straight over each roundabout as the road merges to become the B4006 Great Western Way and the A3102 Great Western Way.

Continue along the A3102 Great Western Way until reaching the M4 J16 Spittleborough Roundabout taking the 3rd exit to rejoin the M4 westbound at J16.

Eastbound traffic are advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol following the above diversion route in reverse.
