A Haydon Wick road has been partly closed "until further notice" because of a burst water main.

Thames Avenue is closed between Tweed Close and Blunsdon Road, and a diversion route is in place as Thames Water tries to fix the problem.

Emergency services and Swindon Borough Council's highways team responded at around 7.35am on Saturday morning by closing Thames Avenue and Blunsdon Road.

The leaked water had flooded the roads and drivers were told to use alternative routes.

Thames Water workers were still at the site at 1am on Sunday morning trying to solve the issue.

Leader of Swindon Borough Council and Conservative councillor for Haydon Wick David Renard said that the road is closed "until further notice".

He added: "I will be writing to Thames Water again as burst mains in this stretch are now occurring regularly.

"The pipes keep bursting as they are old so they need replacing."

The footpaths have been salted because the water leak was making them icy.
