A stage adaption of one of Robert Louis Stevenson’s most famous written works will be darkening the Wyvern stage.

Blackeyed Theatre is reviving its production The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, which will tour the UK until May, with Swindon as one of its stops.

A performance of the show took place in 2020 so that it could be watched during the pandemic.

In the play, Doctor Henry Jekyll is forced to experiment using a new neurological discovery on himself and in doing so, creates a new friend, the brutal Edward Hyde.

This production takes inspiration from director Nick Lane’s own personal journey. Injured by a car accident at the age of 26 that permanently damaged his neck and back.

He said: “I wondered, if someone offered me a potion that was guaranteed to make me feel the way I did before the accident, but with the side effect that I’d become ruthless and horrible – would I drink it?”

The show will run in March from Monday 14 to Tuesday 15.

Tickets can be booked at swindontheatres.co.uk.
