TWO people have been injured by a house fire that has completely destroyed property in Heytesbury this morning.

Around 35 firefighters are battling to bring the blaze at a house in Greenlands, just off Heytesbury High Street, under control.

The two casualties were treated by the South Western Ambulance Service before being taken to Salisbury District Hospital. They were later released.

It is understood their home has been completely destroyed by the fire, which began just before 9am on Wednesday.

Emergency services responded quickly after being called out at 8.55am.

In an update on the incident, a Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “Six breathing apparatus wearers used two main lines and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

"Sadly the property has been completely destroyed by fire and two casualties have been reported and are now in the care of South Western Ambulance Service.

"The incident has now been scaled back and crews remain on scene damping down.  We don’t have a cause at this stage."

Several fire crews are still attending the domestic property fire in Heytesbury where the main road through the village was closed to enable them to work.

When fire crews arrived they said the house was "well alight" and smoke could be seen billowing over the area, which is close to Heytesbury CofE Primary School.

After bringing the blaze under control, fire crews checked the adjoining property for fire spread.

At the height of the incident six pumping appliances from fire stations in Warminster, Westbury, Shaftesbury, Salisbury and Trowbridge, were called to the scene, along with an aerial unit from Yeovil and support units from Frome, Devizes and Swindon.

The main road into Heytesbury was closed from the A36 roundabout to enable fire crews to deal with the incident.

Heytesbury has a population of just over 760 people.
