Theatre At The Bowl is returning this summer.

The 1936 art-deco style bowl in Town Gardens is one of only a handful of its kind in the country and South Swindon Parish Council has been working to ensure it is used more.

Last year the venue saw classics such as Blithe Spirit, The Great Gatsby and Romeo Juliet peformed on the stage, and this year even more iconic plays are set to take place.

Events kick off on Sunday, June 19, with the comedy As You Like It, presented by the acclaimed The Lord Chamberlain’s Men and with The Duke’s Theatre Company.

The same company is returning in August with the celebrated fairytale A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Audiences looking for something a touch more modern might enjoy BlackBox Theatre's return following their sell-out tour of Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit in 2021,

This year they'll be putting on John Godber’s tour de force Bouncers.

This will be complemented by a fantastically new production of The Importance Of Being Earnest from the creators of HandleBards

As well as Heartbreak Productions’ original adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s harrowing and heart-warming classic, Jane Eyre.

There will also be a family friendly production of Kenneth Grahame's timeless The Wind In The Willows from award-winning Calf2Cow.

Moving away from theatre, the program will aslo feature some musical performances for the first time. This includes performances of Opera Sulis, Voodoo Room and 21st Century ABBA on top of the My Dad's Bigger Than Your Dad Festival.

Chair of South Swindon Paris Council's leisure, environment and amenities committee, councillor Neil Hopkins said:  “I am delighted that we are able to announce the launch of the second year of our Theatre at the Bowl, and a new series of Music at the Bowl events in the iconic Art Deco Town Gardens Bowl.

"With a broad range of plays and music, I look forward to seeing our friends from last year together with many new ones this summer.  South Swindon Parish Council is committed to using this beautiful Bowl for a range of events that will fund and lead to its’ repair and improvement.”

This year you can also book a season ticket for all of the theatre performances.
