A world-renowned country star was set to make a musical pit-stop in Swindon next week - but now fans will have to wait more than a year to see her.

A quarter of a century after her first UK tour, Gretchen Peters was due to return with a spring run that included a performance at the Wyvern Theatre in April.

But the American singer songwriter shared some bad news.

She wrote on social media: "To our UK & Dutch friends & fans: this is an announcement that I did not want to make – namely that our UK/Netherlands tour scheduled for March/April 2022 is being postponed once again due to continued uncertainty concerning Covid-19.

"We have struggled with this decision for weeks now; in the end the situation remains too uncertain for us to find a way forward with the tour as scheduled. We are rescheduling dates now. Existing tickets will be honored on the new date. Please contact the venue for further information.

"I am devastated to have to postpone; we have not performed since March 2020 and were so looking forward to this being our return to live shows after a long two years. New dates will be posted as soon as they’re confirmed. In the meantime, please stay safe."

Peters had been working on a brand new live album release - recorded while on tour in the UK in 2019 with her band and an all-female Scottish string quartet.

The Wyvern show has been resceduled from April 4 to May 24 2023.
