A FAMILY fun day is being held in Gorse Hill this Saturday to celebrate the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi Day.

The Punjabi Community Centre on Kembrey Street is hosting sports day races, martial arts demonstrations, a Punjabi disco, face painting and other fun activities along with bouncy castles, an ice cream van from 11.30am on April 16.

Other events planned for the day include a tug-of-war, a demonstration from Swindon Bhangra, musical chairs, an opening ceremony, a turban-tying competition, and presentations at the end of the fun day at 5pm.

Entry and access to the attractions will be free. Registration for the sports day races will take place from 10am.

Gurinder Singh, one of the organisers, said: "In previous years we have had people from all faiths and backgrounds don the turban and be involved in what is likely to be a very enjoyable day.

"As the last two years we have had to postpone this event due to ongoing pandemic, so everyone locally is extra excited for it."
