IT'S been a busy afternoon for firefighters around Wiltshire who have rescued a baby, two dogs, an injured resident and a motorist after being called to various emergencies.

At 1.40pm, a crew from Tetbury fire station assisted paramedics with safely getting a casualty out of a property in Sherston.

The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service thanked the Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service for their assistance at this incident.

At 2.18pm, crews of firefighters from Swindon and Royal Wootton Bassett freed one casualty from a vehicle after a road traffic collision involving two cars on the westbound exit slip road for Junction 16 of the M4.

The crash closed the sliproad and caused traffic problems earlier today.

A DWFRS spokesman added: "Holmatro cutting equipment was used to do this. The casualty was then handed over to the care of the ambulance service."

Then, at 2.59pm, crews from Salisbury and Fordingbridge responded to reports of a small kitchen fire in Salisbury - and rescued two dogs after arriving at the scene.

The 999 call came from a neighbour on Pembroke Road who heard the smoke alarm sounding. Crews put the kitchen fire out and made sure the property was safe before leaving the area.

At 3.29pm, crews from Royal Wootton Bassett's fire station used a vehicle access kit to release a five-month-old child who became accidentally locked in a car.
