A WILTSHIRE mother has turned her experience of traumatic births into a successful coaching business.

Louise Norbury, from Marlborough, now runs Nestle and Nurture, described as the ‘hub of parent and baby wellness in Wiltshire.’

Louise works to help mums accept the imperfect moments of parenthood, and educates parents-to-be about giving birth.

This Is Wiltshire:

As well as supporting parents with the ups and downs of life as new mums and dads, she runs de-briefs following the births of children, allowing them to open up about the process and how it felt at the time.

Louise said: “So many people have a difficult or traumatic birth, we don’t like to use the word ‘traumatic’ because we’re so British and think we’ve just got to get on with it.

"But actually, lots of things that have happened to them haven’t been great and that affects their journey afterwards and their confidence as a parent.”

Having four children of her own, Louise knows first-hand the realities of pregnancy and noted that she had to experience a traumatic birth twice.

She explained that one of her babies got his head stuck during the birth, and at the time the repercussions were something she was unaware of, having little knowledge of what it meant when the doctors said they were going to ‘cut’ her.

Louise is now certified in baby massages and is a baby yoga teacher, as well as a qualified hypnobirthing instructor.

Previously, she had a background in education and worked as a teacher for almost 20 years.

“So many people don’t value the importance of education, you hear the stories around birth and often show up on the day not knowing what to expect.

“It’s crazy because we plan for everything in life, but birth is probably one of the biggest things in our life [which] can get overlooked.”

Noting the difference she has seen education make, Louise added: “I had someone come to me who said she was fearful for years of having a baby, and she said the group course completely changed her point of view.”

In Wiltshire, Louise also feels that the care provided to mothers and parents is inadequate.

She said: “Maternity services are in absolute crisis.

“Chippenham is constantly closing and opening, my clients are always told they can’t have a home birth.

“Don’t get me wrong, not everyone wants a home, but it’s awful they’re just told that.”
