Firefighters leapt into action yesterday evening, following reports of a barn fire in Brinkworth near Royal Wootton Bassett.

The barn contained beef cattle and a diesel tank.

Malmesbury, Royal Wootton Bassett, Swindon and Stratton St Margaret Firefighters were deployed to the incident which took place at 8:20 pm on Saturday night on Swindon Road.

On arrival, there was a quantity of hay alight on the exterior of the barn and this was extinguished using two hose reels and drags.

Fire engines, a water carrier and a specialist animal rescue vehicle were sent to the scene.

The cattle had been removed from the barn prior to the arrival of the fire crew.

Firefighters then managed to isolate the fuel tank and a number of cylinders were removed from the barn.

The fire was under control by 9:15 pm.

Several fire engines were then also moved around to cover areas in the county, including Faringdon from Oxfordshire and Tetbury from Gloucestershire.
