A SWINDON car dealership donated rugby balls used in a world record to Supermarine RFC.

Fish Brothers Honda’s service manager Chris Smy attended the record-breaking day at Twickenham to see the largest ever rugby ball logo mosaic as part of the car manufacturer’s partnership with the England Rugby Football Union.

Workshop controller Hagen Schwarz has a nephew that plays in the youth section at Supermarine RFC and suggested they donate some of the balls which made up the mosaic to the club.

Mr Smy said: “Power of dreams is the Honda slogan for a reason. Being able to surprise our customers and our colleagues with an activity like this is incredible. It’s unconventional, but it’s also an amazing opportunity – especially because so many deserving local clubs are going to benefit from it. Sports and community are important to us, and we’re looking forward to continuing our pursuit of both.”

The Fish Brothers team met the club’s staff and donated the rugby equipment to a player from the under-14s.

Supermarine RFC’s treasurer and sponsorship officer Colin Harris added: “It seemed fitting that Zac from last year's U14's Youths team should receive the donation. He has played rugby at Supermarine RFC since the age of six in the Minis, and is a current Bath RFC Academy player, which use the facilities at the club.

“His mother Charlotte Murray has volunteered as a team coordinator and the family duo epitomise Supermarine 'Bluefamily', giving everyone a chance to fulfil their dreams within a caring environment.

“With over 200 players in the Mini and Youth sections, the club has seen a great progression from the junior to senior teams.

“We thank Fish Brothers and Honda for their kind donation, and hope Honda's sponsorship of English Rugby gives further inspiration to grass roots rugby.”

Rebecca Adamson from Honda UK, said: “Community sport is so important. It gives people of all ages and genders the opportunity to foster their talents, develop new skills, meet new people, and lead healthier lives. For all of these reasons, and countless others, we are thrilled to support so many deserving grassroots teams.

“By supporting so many local clubs, we are able to give hundreds of people the opportunity to pursue something that they love. Our partnership with the RFU demonstrates our commitment to rugby, but it’s our grassroots work that really allows us to make a difference.”
