A number of Swindon Town legends are set to return to the town to raise money for the NSPCC.
A team of County Ground all-stars will go head-to-head with a Swindon Supermarine legends team next month and club legends like Paul Bodin, Paul Caddis and Charlie Austin are set to be on hand.
The game will take place on Sunday, July 3 at Supermarine’s Webbswood Stadium and will feature the likes of Austin, who will be watching alongside fans, as well as Steve Mildenhall, Leigh Barnard and Michael Doughty, among others.
Local celebrities such as comedian Ivo Graham and musician Grim Sickers are also on hand to line-up for Town against a team of Swindon Supermarine legends such as Gary Horgan, Chris Taylor and Dave Bampton.
The match represents the first of a string of fundraising events organised by the NSPCC’s Swindon and North Wiltshire Branch, based in Old Town, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
Alan Fletcher has been chairman of the branch since 2018 and says he is looking forward to the event.
“As a football fan, I’m really excited to be a part of this event between these two legends teams.
“This match is just the start of our planned activity, but it is a great way to kick off our year of celebrations.
“I want to say a heartfelt thanks to all of those who have helped bring this event together and really hope to see plenty of people there in July.”
NSPCC Community Fundraising Manager for Bristol, Bath and Wiltshire, Emma Hildesley said: "We are so lucky at the NSPCC to have the support of both Supermarine and Swindon Town.
“It's such a buzz to see so many legends and stars come together in support of NSPCC's work with local children and their families.
“I'm really proud of our Swindon Business Board for bringing this all together, especially after a couple of years of holding off from doing events.
“This is our chance to come back with a bang and It's going to be a brilliant afternoon of fun and entertainment.”
The NSPCC’s South West Hub in Swindon provides vital services to people in the town and fundraising events like this go a long way in supporting the charity.
Tickets are available at the door and will cost £5 for adults, children can go for free with gates opening at 1pm ahead of a 3pm kick-off.
