STEAM has reached a new milestone in the fight against coronavirus.

A total of 400,000 Covid jabs have now been administered at the railway museum, which became the largest vaccine centre in Swindon when the vaccine was approved in December 2020.

More than 78 per cent of all people in Swindon have had a first Covid-19 vaccine, and more than 73 per cent have received a second. As of Friday, the vaccination total for STEAM stood at 401,252.

Across the Bath & North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire CCG area more than 80 per cent of all eligible people have so far had at least one coronavirus vaccine, with more than three quarters – 77 per cent – also having received two doses.

Operations manager at the STEAM vaccine centre Paul Miles said: “To reach 400,000 vaccinations is an incredible achievement, and a testament to not only the enormous efforts of our staff and volunteers, but also the strong desire from local people to get protected against Covid-19.

“At every stage of the vaccination programme, we have strived to make getting the vaccine as easy and as stress-free as possible, with our teams often working long hours across evenings and weekends to get the job done.

“Although most people have now had the vaccine, we remain open for those who have yet to come forward, as well as for those groups, such as the over-75s and people with a weakened immune system, who are due a second booster dose.

“The STEAM museum currently has really good appointment availability, so anybody in need of their first or second dose, as well as their booster jab, can book online and have their vaccination without delay.”
