POLICE have acted to restrict the number of people who can attend a Class A drug addict’s home after neighbours complained about “persistent nuisance”.

The property, at 38 Drakes Way in Walcot, has seen people attending “at all hours of the night” and day, and visitors would bang on the windows and use the intercom to wake neighbours to gain access, Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard today (June 23).

Wiltshire Police were applying for a partial closure order under the Anti-Social behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, which was granted by magistrates.

It will see only the owner, Tyron Harman, and his mother allowed to enter the property for the next three months, in a bid to allow neighbours “some breathing space”.

Applying to the court, PC Grant Hesketh, of the Swindon Community Policing Team, said it was previously subject to a partial closure order from December 2021 to February 2022.

He added that Harmon was a Class A drug user who had been “battling addiction for quite some time now”.

“Since the first order expired back in February, his neighbours continue to complain about him in that they smell drugs coming from the communal area, his visitors will come at all hours of the night, day, banging on the windows, using the intercom system to gain access to his property, raising other residents in the early hours of the morning.

“The impact of his offending, his chaotic lifestyle, his ability to not say no to people who cause problems at that location is the reason for the application – to allow those residents some breathing space and allow police to visit his address.”

PC Hesketh said he did not intend to apply for a third order in the months to coming, saying the force had been in discussions with Harman and “it will result in him being evicted from the property or him changing his ways”.

The officer added that Harman was last before the court just yesterday (June 22), charged with theft.

Court registers show he admitted stealing £75 of alcohol from Asda Orbital on April 5 and April 11.

He also failed to attend court on June 8.

The 35-year-old was fined £100, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34.

Magistrates granted the order, which will last for three months.
