CONTROVERSIAL comedian Russell Brand is returning to the Wyvern this month - and tickets are already sold-out.

This comes almost a year after he was the first performance to take place on the theatre's stage since it was forced to close because of the Covid lockdown.

After 17 months of darkness the theatre was able to reopen on August 28, 2021, and Brand's brand-new show '33' marked a successful return for live performances in Swindon drawing a sell-out crowd.

Now, after 12 months of musicals, live music, comedy, pantomimes and plays have been performed at the Wyvern, the comedian and television personality is bringing back that same popular show for a second time.

Despite tickets only going on sale a few days ago, the show is already a complete sell-out.

Those lucky enough to snap up a ticket can expect to see him perform stand-up on the strangeness of the pandemic - what have we learned and not learned? And how do you ‘get back to normal’ if you’ve never been normal?

In the show Brand also asks the audience to answer questions such as 'what situation/person really annoyed you during lockdown?' or 'what's the naughtiest thing they'd done during lockdown?' which he mines for comedy gold"

He has also been snapped meeting and greeting members of the audience at several of his shows, often posting pics himself on his social media.

Brand's performance will take place on August 30 - for more information visit the Swindon Theatres website

For the theatre itself, it marks a full year since it has been back operational during which it also celebrated its 50th anniversary.

At the time a Wyvern Theatre spokesperson said: "It is such an amazing achievement for us to be reaching this impressive milestone and to be continuing to entertain Swindon audiences after 50 years.

“The date has taken on a special significance for us as we have only recently reopened our doors to the public after being locked down for so long, but we’re excited to see what the future holds for the Wyvern Theatre.”

In the last 12 months, several different shows have taken place including the Louie Spence starring Jack and the Bean Stalk pantomime, the Adam Woodyatt-fronted thriller Looking Good Dead, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Circus of Horrors to name just a few.

In the coming months, people can look forward to hit-musical Six, The Summer Youth Project's Legally Blonde and a Sherlock Holmes stage adaption.
