POLICE stopped several drivers in Wiltshire over the weekend for having registration plate mistakes and tinted windows.

Roads policing units stopped and penalised motorists who were guilty of similar offences.

A Wiltshire Special Operations spokesman said: "The south RPU car had a mix of stops - from speeders in Salisbury, expired MOT’s in Amesbury, registration plates the wrong colour and dangerous side window tints in Tidworth.

"The front side windows fitted to vehicles used on the road should let 70 per cent of light through.

"Only 49 per cent of light was getting through on this Mercedes. This makes it harder to see vulnerable road users in dark or poor weather conditions.

"Fixed penalty issued to the driver."

This Is Wiltshire:

One driver had a custom licence plate which spelt out A LOSER, though the layout of the letters did not meet Road legal requirements.

The police spokesman added: "RPU spotted a vehicle on Marlborough High Street displaying a strangely spaced registration plate and yet again very dark side window tints. Papers issued."
