Owners of a service station on the M4 are hoping they will be allowed to install 12 additional electric car charging points.
Chippenham Pit Stop, a family-owned business at junction 17, say their business has been boosted by the installation of six charging points in the last two years.
Four 350kW charging points, the fastest of their kind on the M4, were installed by high power charging network operators IONITY in December, 2020 and two more were added in October.
Managing director David Hatherell, is now hoping Wiltshire planners will approve the installation of 12 more of the charging points that he claims put his business on the map.
He said: “While providing first class facilities for our hundreds of trucker customers remains our core business, there is no doubt that the installation of the charging points has significantly increased our general public footfall over the past twelve months.
“The chargers really put us on the map for motorists on the M4 because while powering up they also stopped for coffee or popped in to our restaurant for meals.
“Not only that, word appears to have spread among their friends without electric cars that the Chippenham Pit Stop was a great place to take a break.”
